Health Care: Kaiser Hospitals & Clinics
For a hospital, it is important to have work that is sufficiently complex to engage patients waiting for medical care in often stressful situations. At the same time, the art must provide a sense of relaxation and comfort.
For a pediatric area, we took a clue from the popular "Where's Waldo?" illustrated stories, choosing a painted metal sculpture that includes many images within the work. The work is meant to engage children in a quest to find familiar objects and animals within the artistic labyrinth.
For an adult lobby, the Kaiser philosophy of helping the community was translated into a series of large-format close-up photographs of hands. The hands depict the many ages and races of those helping one another and/or being comforted. The larger-than-life format is a dramatic interpretation of healing and comfort.
